Dubai CommerCity – a specialized free economic zone for e-commerce

Dubai CommerCity is the first specialized free economic zone in the region fully dedicated to e-commerce, digital trade, and related logistics and IT services. The project was implemented at the initiative of the Dubai government through a partnership between the Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA) and Wasl Asset Management Group under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The total investment volume in the development of Dubai CommerCity amounted to approximately AED 2.7 billion.

Dubai CommerCity was established as part of the emirate’s long-term strategy to develop the digital economy and strengthen Dubai’s position as a key global hub for e-commerce and international trade. The zone is located in close proximity to Dubai International Airport, providing companies with direct access to advanced logistics infrastructure and international transportation routes.

The primary objective of Dubai CommerCity is to create a favorable and technologically advanced business environment for companies operating in e-commerce, online retail, marketplaces, digital services, logistics, warehousing, and order fulfillment. The free zone is designed to serve both regional and international companies, including startups, fast-growing e-commerce projects, and large retail platforms.

Dubai CommerCity offers companies modern infrastructure, including high-tech warehouse complexes, office spaces, logistics centers, and IT solutions tailored to the needs of the electronic commerce industry. This format enables businesses to efficiently manage supply chains, optimize order fulfillment, and serve markets across the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and other regions.

The project was implemented in phases. At the initial stage, the primary focus was on creating a modern warehousing and logistics base for regional and international manufacturers. Subsequently, Dubai CommerCity evolved into a comprehensive platform for the development of e-commerce, cross-border trade, and digital business models.

Today, Dubai CommerCity is an operational free economic zone offering company licensing, infrastructure support, and a regulatory environment adapted to the specific needs of e-commerce. The development of this free zone has become an important element of Dubai’s strategy to build a sustainable, innovative, and future-oriented economy based on technology and international trade.
