The authorities of the UAE are not afraid to set ambitious goals. One of these is the Smart Technologies program, the main goal of which is to make the city of Dubai the most technologically advanced in the world by 2021.
The Smart Technologies program was launched back in 2014, and within its framework, more than 500 projects are planned in the field of communication, public administration, infrastructure, transport, personal services, and other areas.
No one can be surprised with digital technologies in the UAE; they are everywhere: unmanned subway trains, 3D printing of entire buildings, 24/7 Internet everywhere, along with smart technologies.
Smart shopping carts for the mall!
And now, the Dubai authorities announced a new project from the Smart Technologies program – smart carts. One can see that innovation in the central vegetable market in the shopping center of Al Aweer.
The essence of this technology is as follows: a cart "sees" its buyer and automatically follows him or her, wherever this person goes, including to the parked car. You no longer need to push this cart - it will follow you like the R2-D2 robot from the famous Star Wars.
There is another pleasant technical innovation in this market – a system for collecting information about products. On special tablets, you can find out all the necessary information (country of origin, expiration date, and so on). Also, all the necessary information about the products is received by the inspectors of the municipality, which allows them to quickly and effectively control the quality of products.
